Zimbabwe debuts at the Embassy Chef Challenge – 10 July 2025
July 31, 2025Zimbabwe participates in Passport DC: 3 May 2025

The Embassy participated in the Passport DC Around the World Tour held on 03 May 2025 which attracted about 60 Embassies. The Zimbabwe stand was at the University of the District of Columbia together with other Embassies and International vendors. This annual event, which attracted 40 000 visitors was organized by Events DC as part of International Culture Month offering Embassies in Washington, D.C., the opportunity to showcase their cultures to the public. Passport DC provided a vibrant platform for cultural exchange, featuring performances, culinary experiences, art exhibitions, tourism information, and various displays highlighting the unique aspects of each participating nation.

This was the country’s debut, aiming to promote itself and boost visibility by engaging with visitors. The Zimbabwe stand featured exhibits highlighting the country’s diverse tourism offerings, gastronomy, stone sculptures, wooden crafts, basketry and the national fabric. We showcased a selection of traditional dishes such as chimukuyu, sadza and haifiridzi, rice with peanut butter, mutakura, mopane worms, mazondo, and matemba, complemented by refreshing drinks. The chance for visitors to taste our cuisine was a wonderful way to engage with them and it generated considerable interest in destination Zimbabwe. We also had a fantastic opportunity to share our traditional music on stage with an engaging drumming session and the beautiful sounds of mbira music, both of which were well received by participants.

Passport DC helped raise Zimbabwe’s profile and promoted its tourism offerings. Interacting with attendees improved perceptions of the country and highlighted its diverse attractions. The Embassy remains committed to supporting international tourism and anticipates more American travelers to visit and experience Zimbabwe.
