Bilateral Trade between Zimbabwe and USA

Zimbabwe is experiencing exponential growth in exports to the USA. Figures provided by Zimbabwe National Statistical Agency, shows a sustained increase in exports to the USA from about US$9.1 million in 2021 to US$48.8 million in 2024, as indicated in the graph below:

Major exports are tobacco, arts products, steel ferroalloy, sugar and confectionary and nonferrous metal, among others.

Imports on the other hand declined from a high of US$110.7 million in 2023 to US$65.5 million in 2024. Major imports in 2024 were maize, sorghum, food, capital equipment, pharmaceutical products and fuel, among others.

Trade and Investment Office

The Trade and investment office at the Embassy established in 2023 is responsible for promoting business engagement between Zimbabwe and the USA, through three(3) main pillars, namely:

  1. Economic Pillar
    • Analysis of the Zimbabwe and USA economies in particular major policy pronouncements, (e.g. national budget statements, monetary policy, national development plans etc) and other economic variables and disseminate the same to stakeholders.
  2. Trade Development Pillar
    • Assisting Zimbabwean exporters with relevant market intelligence that will facilitate access to the US market;
    • Assisting US companies to source products from Zimbabwe by identifying potential suppliers for US importers and buyers
  3. Investment Promotion Pillar
    • Promote investment opportunities for Zimbabwe across all sectors of the economy, in particular the key sectors of agriculture, mining, manufacturing, transport, tourism, infrastructure, education, health, water, etc and aggressively market these to potential investors.
    • Facilitate and coordinate the convening of roadshows promoting specific sector investment opportunities for Zimbabwe in conjunction with government agencies such as Zimtrade, ZIDA and private sector led bodies such as CZI, CEO Africa Roundtablee, ZNCC, among others.
